Update on May 2: Community support has been terrific and the Mayen family is very appreciative. Here is information about funeral and memorial services planned for Jose:
- A funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 5th at Crippen and Flynn Chapel, 400 Woodside Road, Redwood City, the Family Visitation will be from 4-5 p.m., and service for all begins at 5:00 p.m
- The M-A community is holding a Life Celebration for Jose on Monday, May 6 from 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the M-A PAC Cafeteria and patio.
Menlo-Atherton High School grad Jose Felix Mayen was killed in an automobile accident last week. His heartbroken family needs help from the community.
Jose, age 23, propelled himself from humble beginnings to enroll as a student at UC Berkeley. He was on his way to school when his car had a flat tire. He stopped on the side of the San Mateo Bridge to wait for his Dad. His car was struck by a speeding vehicle.
He leaves behind a loving family: His parents, two younger siblings and a long-term girlfriend.
Jose was a brilliant student and a positive person — an example in our community of someone who applied himself with earnestness and hard work to everything he did.
His heartbroken family needs help to pay for his memorial and burial. The cost is about $15,000, which is nearly impossible for them to absorb. Any community support would mean so much to them. Donations of any size will be so appreciated; online donations can be made via Give Forward.
