The 9th annual  Big Bear Run is set for Sunday, May 4. Proceeds from the race support Menlo-Atherton High School’s 50-plus sports teams.

Professionally timed, the 5K run begins at the M-A gym lot on Ringwood and weaves through flat Lindenwood, ending with a track finish on Coach Parks Field. Medals are awarded for all age group winners, both male and female — 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Age catagories are: 12 and under, 13-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70+. Race registrants receive t-shirts.

To register for the race, print an entry form and mail it in. You may also register online through Active.com. Over 1,200 runners are expected this year. Entree fees go up after Sunday, April 27.

Early check-in to pick up race t-shirts and bibs is on Friday, May 2, from 2:30-6:00 pm at the gym lot on Ringwood. Race day check-in begins on Sunday, May 4 at 7:30 am and closes at 8:45 am. Race starts at 9:00 am sharp. No skates, scooters, bikes, headphones or dogs allowed.

Refreshments and awards ceremony follow the race. There will be a drawing with prizes, including an iPad mini, Beats headphones, and gift cards. M-A Bears decals will be awarded to M-A students completing the race in 45 minutes or less.

Please bring new or gently used athletic shoes for donation to charities.
